The Partnership

Newton belongs to my creative partner, Nerida Newton. We work together, running Two Birds Creative, and now we write together, too.

Together we're crafting adult historical fiction that weaves art history with human drama, exploring how objects and materials carry stories across generations.

Our writing process is collaborative. While we write our own characters and time lines, we plot together, draft in tandem, and edit each other's words until the whole novel is greater than the sum of its parts.

BYSSUS

Our debut novel explores the ancient art of sea silk—a luminous fabric woven from the threads of pen shells. Spanning centuries and continents, Byssus follows the women who guarded this dying craft and the secrets woven into its golden threads.

We're drawn to forgotten histories, lost arts, and the women whose stories were never fully told. Each novel begins with a material—sea silk, pigment, paper—and asks: who made this, and what did it cost them?
